Zephyr Heights Lake Tahoe is made up of two areas, Zephyr Heights and Zephyr Knoll which are somewhat inter-twined on a quite steep hill above Hwy 50 between Round Hill to the south and Zephyr Cove to the north. Zephyr Heights has a small commercial area on Hwy 50 comprised of a vacation resort, a professional office building with a restaurant on the ground floor, plus a liquor store and a long-time local’s favorite, Sam’s Place Restaurant and bar. The residential area of 199 homes is primarily accessed up the hill on North Martin Drive and toward the top where the homes have perhaps the most special views of Lake Tahoe of any area in Douglas County at Tahoe, with it’s the various beaches, the casino area, also Heavenly Ski Resort and the south western Sierra mountains.
Zephyr Knolls with its 61 homes is primarily accessed just a ¼ mile north on Hwy 50 up the hill on Lakeview Drive plus homes off Sleepy Hollow and Inspiration Drives. These have very special views of the Zephyr Cove Resort, on up to Cave Rock and the northwest views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra. Homes in both areas range from typical Tahoe style to ultra-modern styles and all are in heavily forested and mostly very quiet neighborhoods. The average sold price for this area is $900,000. About 2 minutes south on Hwy 50 is the Round Hill Shopping Center, restaurants, post office, a gas station and Fire Station. Another 2 minutes south is the Kingsbury Grade area, which includes numerous businesses, restaurants, the Lakeview Inn & Casino, Wells Fargo Bank, & UPS to name a few.
Travel to the top of Kingsbury Grade (SR207) for superb skiing at the Nevada side of Heavenly Mountain Ski Resort (managed by Vail Resorts) with the Stagecoach & Boulder Lodges and ski lifts. Another three minutes south on Hwy 50 brings one to Tahoe’s top Casino/Hotels, first-class entertainment, ski lifts, a gondola to exhilarating views of Lake Tahoe, ice-skating, the spectacular Edgewood Golf Course and many restaurants.
Less than 2 minutes north of Zephyr Heights/Knolls is the historical Zephyr Cove Resort RV & Campground, with many kinds of water activities plus the Tahoe Queen Stern-wheeler and Woodwind catamaran for tours of the Lake. Just beyond that are the areas’ elementary, middle and high schools.
Within a 40 minute drive north and east over Lake Spooner Pass to Nevada’s Capitol, Carson City are major malls with Costco, Walmart, Trader Joe’s, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Home Depot, Staples, World Market, numerous restaurants, the Galaxy digital/3D Theaters, and much more.
