Carnelian Bay is an easily accessible, but smaller, North Lake Tahoe area conveniently located just 6 miles East of Tahoe City. Carnelian Bay received its name in 1860 for the semi-precious yellow and red stones blanketing the shoreline. Carnelian Bay residents enjoy the central location as it gives them easy access to not only all 12 ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe area, but quick access to both North and South sides of the lake. There is no shortage of recreational activity thanks to the multiple trails used for hiking and biking. This neighborhood is also considered a boaters delight with its rich history dating back to 1952 when the Sierra Boat Company opened its doors. Every year, Carnelian Bay is home to the huge Concours d’Elegance wooden boat show which draws a national crowd. Another iconic business is Garwoods, the original home of the lakeside Wet Woody beverage. If you love to fish, this part of North Lake is considered a fabulous fishing spot thanks to the large amounts of big Mackinaw found here. With this fishing and boating obviously comes a couple of great beaches to choose from. Carnelian Bay Beach allows dogs and has trails as well as picnic tables to enjoy your lunch with a Lake Tahoe view. Patton’s Landing is a smaller beach with a nature walk, picnic tables and has an area for events.
Like its neighboring towns, Carnelian Bay real estate has a mix of homes types ranging from larger lake fronts to small, charming Tahoe Cabins. One thing most of the 950 homes in Carnelian Bay have in common is wide streets with homes surrounded by tall trees. Homes for sale in Carnelian Bay can start in the $200,000 price range and soar well past a million, taking into account view and location of course. While most of the real estate in Carnelian Bay are second properties and vacation rentals, there are residences who love to call this area home all year around. It is no wonder seeing as this West Shore area gives folks a truly authentic mountain town experience.
The year to year comparison report for Carnelian Bay shows that most of the areas we follow have decreased, however this is due to the fact that they are in a sellers market with a month supply of 2. The lack of inventory available to buyers can cause the usual statistics that we follow to drop.
