Gardner Mountain | South Lake Tahoe Real Estate Neighborhoods

Those seeking a blend of “in-town” amenities with “mountain living” ambiance will find themselves heading to the neighborhood of Gardner Mountain.  Gardner Mountain is situated along the side of a small wooded hillside located less than a mile from the intersection of Highway 50 and Lake Tahoe Blvd (locals call this area the ‘Y’.)   If one were to head toward Emerald Bay or North Tahoe via Hwy 89, Gardner Mountain is the neighborhood to the left of the highway.   This neighborhood is especially popular with both locals and visitors as it is within a short bike ride (or a slightly longer walk) to the South Shores’ visitor attraction known as Camp Richardson.  From there, Lake Tahoe’s beautiful sandy shores are accessed via Pope Beach, Baldwin Beach and Kiva Beach.  The latter is often called “dog beach” by the locals as it is one of the few that allow dogs to visit.  Along the same shore line are the Valhalla and Kiva historic sites where one can easily imagine the splendor of the Roaring 20’s.  Here, many of Lake Tahoe’s annual festivals such as The Renaissance Festival, The Great Gatsby Festival, The Kokanee Festival and the ever popular Oktoberfest all take place.

Hikers and photographers are often seen exploring the nearby destinations of Emerald Bay (Kodak dubbed it one of the world’s most photographed places,) Fallen Leaf Lake and Eagle Falls.   Trails leading to Fallen Leaf Lake can be accessed at the back of Gardner Mountain.  These trails provide a wonderful opportunity for biking, hiking and cross country skiing without needing to travel by car.  Also within the area are plenty of great restaurants, grocery stores and shopping.  Also located within the Gardner Mountain neighborhood, yet somewhat hidden in a small wooded valley, is the local high school, South Lake Tahoe High School.

Throughout the Gardner Mountain neighborhood are approximately 365 homes providing a mixture of classic “Old Tahoe” cabins, ranchers, and large contemporary homes.   These homes are situated on lots ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 square foot, many with a depth of 200 feet creating wonderfully private backyards.  There are even a few remaining “old estate” parcels offering an acre or more of land.  There are a few parcels hosting two small cabins as well as one condominium development called St. Francis of the Woods.   Gardner Mountain – often called the “best of two Tahoe worlds.”
