Black Bart | South Lake Tahoe Real Estate Neighborhoods
Centrally located and nestled along the Truckee River Meadow is the Black Bart neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe. Black Bart was a legendary Wells Fargo stagecoach robber whose historical notoriety led him throughout the Sierra foothills. Black Bart was a reknown character of mixed reviews and such is the nature of this neighborhood bearing his name. The Black Bart neighborhood is found between the Sierra Tract and Pioneer Trail and offers easy access to both of the South Shore’s major roads, Pioneer Trail and Lake Tahoe Blvd (Hwy 50.) While appearing to be large in land space from a bird’s eye view, this neighborhood is actually very small, consisting of approximate 120 homes. On the average, these homes feature three bedrooms, two baths and 1,220 square feet of living space. However, because the area is located between the Lake Christopher and Trout Creek meadows, many beautiful and newer homes have been constructed to take advantage of the stunning mountain and meadow views. Many of the lots within Black Bart are larger than the average found throughout South Lake Tahoe providing extra elbow room and privacy.
The beauty of the area is enhanced by the adjacent Lake Christopher and Trout Creek meadows. These meadows are vital to Lake Tahoe’s clarity as they are major tributaries to the lake. The Cold Creek restoration project, completed in 1994, is one of the largest “sensitive environmental zone” projects taken on by the California State Conservancy, with a total project cost of $1,400,000. This project re-created more than a mile of stream channel providing natural habitat for fish and wildlife. Take a stroll throughout the meadows and you are nearly guaranteed to watch nature unfold itself in full glory. Coyote families, bear, trout, birds and wildflowers call this meadow home. Such a tranquil walk will remind one of why they chose to be in Lake Tahoe.
Along with numerous restaurants, shopping and public transportation are nearby government facilities including the Lake Tahoe Community College, the South Tahoe Public Utility District, and the US Forestry Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. Another popular benefit of the Black Bart neighborhood is the nearby Sierra House Elementary School which has consistently received high achievement awards.
